French press

Brew time: about 5 minutes

What you’ll need

  • A French Press brewer

  • 55 grams (~8 tbsp) of coarsely-ground coffee

  • 850 grams (~3.5 cups of boiling water

  • A spoon

  • A serving carafe

1-Liter French Press Brew

Coarsely grind (if possible) / measure 55 grams (~8 tbsp) of coffee, and pour it into the French Press brewer.

Pour the boiling water over the coffee grounds until ~1/3 of the brewer is filled. Use the spoon to mix the grounds. Make sure that all of the grounds are fully-saturated. This is called the bloom, and activates the extraction process. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30 seconds.

After the 30-second bloom, pour the rest of the water into the French Press brewer.

Use the spoon to stir the water and the coffee grounds. Ensure that all of the coffee is fully-saturated to ensure an even extraction. Use the spoon to remove any foam or bubbles, as these create a bitter taste.

Use the spoon to remove any foam or bubbles, as these create bitterness in the brew.

Start the brewing process: Close the lid of the coffee maker and turn it on. The water will be heated and then dripped evenly over the coffee grounds, allowing the coffee to extract slowly and evenly.

Directions

Enjoy your coffee: Once the brewing process is complete, your fresh drip coffee will be ready to pour. Serve it in your favorite mug and add milk, cream, or sweeteners if desired. Enjoy!
